In short

Securely connect Claude to your cloud applications and local files. This course teaches how to use connectors to access relevant information without compromising data governance. Master the setup, permissions, and testing to ensure the AI respects the data boundaries established by your organization.

Why this training?

Integrating AI with existing information systems is essential to maximize its value, but it raises crucial security and governance questions. Using Claude to analyze data in cloud services or interact with business applications is powerful, but how do you ensure the AI doesn't exceed a user's access rights? This course addresses this challenge by focusing on the control mechanisms of Claude connectors. It explains how to use them to extend AI capabilities in a targeted way, while maintaining strict data segregation and adhering to corporate security policies, ensuring productivity doesn't compromise data integrity. Participants will work on practical cases to connect Claude to a simulated data source. They will be required to define a restricted access scope, verify inherited permissions, and query the AI to confirm it cannot access information outside the defined scope. The objective is to validate the security configuration before a simulated deployment, ensuring the principle of least privilege is respected and that the integration is both effective and secure. Deliverables: An evaluation grid for choosing the right connector type.; A security checklist for deploying each new connector.; Template prompts for interacting with connected data sources.. This course focuses on configuring and managing existing Claude connectors. It does not cover the development of new custom connectors or data migration strategies. The availability of certain connectors may depend on your organization's administrator policies. The workshop is delivered in person as a private session for up to 12 participants, in one language chosen from French, Dutch and English. All exercise data is fictional or anonymised, and every result produced with AI is reviewed and validated by a responsible person. The aim is a bounded result the team can reuse, not a promise of deployment.

Objectives of this training

  • Differentiate between Claude connector types and their use cases.
  • Enable a connector for a specific task by defining its scope.
  • Verify the read/write capabilities of a specific connector.
  • Test what the connector can actually reach before using it.
  • Apply best practices for reviewing AI actions through connectors.

Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?

Roles and tasks concerned

  • Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and data architects.
  • Project managers and product owners looking to integrate AI into their workflows.
  • Business users seeking to leverage their data through Claude in a secure manner.

Prior skills

  • Participants must have completed the 'AI Fundamentals' and 'AI Prompting' courses or have equivalent experience. A paid Claude subscription that provides access to connector features is required, along with your organization's authorization to use these third-party tools. You must have the necessary accounts and access rights for the services to be connected during the exercises, which use fictional or anonymized data.
  • A paid subscription to an AI solution offering the features used, the organisation’s authorisation for third-party tools, and the actual accounts and access rights.

What you will work on

  1. Introduction to Claude Connectors

Understanding how Claude inherits individual permissions. Distinguishing between remote connectors (cloud services, available on web, desktop, mobile, Cowork) and desktop extensions (local files, Claude Desktop only).

  2. Scoping and Enabling Connectors

Applying the enable-per-task principle to limit exposure. Mapping the data scope precisely for each enabled connector.

  3. Verification and Security Testing

Checking the connector's page to verify its read/write capabilities. Conducting tests to probe the connector's actual access reach.

  4. Governance and Secure Usage

Establishing a process for reviewing AI actions via connectors. Knowing the options for connector restriction by administrators (depending on the plan).

What you take away

  • An evaluation grid for choosing the right connector type.
  • A security checklist for deploying each new connector.
  • Template prompts for interacting with connected data sources.

Method and assessment

  • Live demonstrations of configuring and testing connectors.
  • Hands-on workshops based on realistic business scenarios.
  • Group discussions on governance and security implications.

Continuous evaluation through the completion of practical exercises and a final capstone case involving the end-to-end secure configuration of a connector.
