AI-assisted SQL
How can you query a database in SQL with AI and check the results?
1250 € per session, excl. VAT
In short
Business analysts and controllers learn to query a demo database in SQL with an AI assistant offering SQL code generation: understand tables, keys and granularity, write filters, aggregates and simple joins, then check duplicates, null values and totals. Deliverables: commented queries, a data dictionary and a result validation checklist they can reuse with colleagues.
Why this training?
- The problem
- Analysts and controllers often depend on exports prepared by others, even though the data exists directly in a relational database.
- What it costs today
- A poorly chosen join can double revenue figures or lead to data loss without warning, distorting analyses.
- Why this skill
- This skill is necessary to formulate simple SQL queries, understand them, and verify their results before any use.
- What you gain
- The participant and the company gain reliable analyses, decisions based on verified data, and increased autonomy in accessing information.
Objectives of this training
- Describe the structure of a database by identifying tables, keys, and granularity.
- Write simple SQL queries with the chosen AI assistant including filters and aggregates.
- Construct simple joins between relational tables.
- Verify the validity of SQL query results (duplicates, null values, control totals).
- Document a data dictionary of the exercise database.
- Develop a checklist for validating query results.
Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?
Roles and tasks concerned
- Business analysts
- Controllers
- Reporting managers who can read a table
Prior skills
- AI Fundamentals and AI Prompting completed, or equivalent experience (a learning prerequisite, not a registration condition).
- Knowledge of tabular structures (rows, columns, identifiers)
- Understanding of a relational data structure
- Experience with data queries or reports
- A paid subscription to an AI solution offering the features used, the organisation’s authorisation for third-party tools, and the actual accounts and access rights.
To prepare before the session
- Access to a read-only demonstration SQL environment.
- Familiarity with basic SQL concepts or tabular structures.
- Chosen business case for the exercise.
What you will work on
Understand the database
The participant is able to read and describe tables, primary and foreign keys, and the granularity of each table in a database.
Select, filter, aggregate
The participant can formulate a business question and translate it into SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY queries and aggregate functions, explaining each clause.
Join two tables
The participant knows how to choose the appropriate key and join type, and understand the effect of a join on the number of rows obtained.
Verify results
The participant is able to control the quality of query results, including join duplicates, null values, and control totals.
What you take away
- Commented SQL queries.
- Data dictionary of the exercise database.
- Results validation checklist.
Method and assessment
- Read-only demo database
- Business question written before every query
- Systematic checks against independent totals
Queries are assessed on accuracy against the question asked, the participant's ability to explain each clause, detection of duplicates and null values, and the quality of comments and checklist.
Frequently asked questions
What concrete result does this course deliver?
Participants can retrieve a simple SQL result themselves and prove it is correct before sharing it. Deliverables: commented queries, data dictionary of the exercise database, result validation checklist.
Who is this course for and what are the prerequisites?
It is designed for: business analysts, financial controllers, reporting leads who can read a table. An introduction to SQL or a good grasp of tabular structure (rows, columns, identifiers). A read-only demo SQL environment is prepared; no production database is used.
What data and access need to be arranged?
The database is a read-only demo prepared before the session. No real data is copied into the chosen AI assistant; only the structure and questions are shared. Required tools and licences are checked before the session; no subscription is included in the price.
What practical exercise is completed?
On a read-only demo database, participants describe tables, keys and granularity, write SELECT queries with filters, aggregates and simple joins, then check join duplicates, null values and control totals.
What are the limits and who validates the results?
The workshop deploys no database and uses no production access. A query generated by the chosen AI assistant is only used after reading, explaining and checking it; complex or performance-critical queries remain with data teams.
Can the course be adapted to our line of work?
During scoping, the demo database is chosen to resemble business data: sales, invoices, stock, HR or tickets.
How is the session organised and what does it cost?
Half-day, private in-person session for up to 12 participants. The fee is €1,250 excluding VAT per session. Date and location are agreed during scoping; each session runs in a single language: French, Dutch or English.
