In short

“Restating client needs” is a private in-person session of half a day for salespeople and account managers or pre-sales consultants and sales support teams. It helps you structure meeting notes into needs, constraints and decision criteria, distinguish the client’s statements from interpretations. Groups of up to 12 participants, in French, with exercises on your own work cases.

Why this training?

An imprecise restatement leads to a proposal that misses the need. After a meeting, notes are often incomplete, jumbled and difficult to reread a few days later. This session shows how to use AI to structure these notes, distinguish what the client said from what was assumed, and write a summary for the client to confirm. Running case study: Participants receive the raw notes from a fictitious meeting between ‘Hydra Services’, a fictitious industrial cleaning company, and a production site. They use them to produce a summary to send to the client. Transfer to the workplace: After each important meeting, participants send a structured summary using the same method and ask the client to confirm it.

Objectives of this training

  • Structure meeting notes into needs, constraints and decision criteria
  • Distinguish the client’s statements from interpretations
  • Write a clear, verifiable email restating the client’s needs
  • Identify questions still outstanding to ask the client
  • Check that the restatement does not distort the original statements

Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?

Roles and tasks concerned

  • Salespeople and account managers
  • Pre-sales consultants and sales support teams

Prior skills

  • No prior knowledge of AI required: the training starts from scratch.
  • Ability to use a computer, a browser and a word processor.

What you will work on

  1. Listening and taking notes to restate needs

Objective: Understand what a good restatement should contain. Expressed need, underlying need, constraints, decision criteria, timescale; common restatement errors.

  2. Structuring notes with AI

Objective: Move from raw notes to a clear structure. Ask AI to categorise the notes without adding anything; flag ambiguous elements.

  3. Writing the client summary

Objective: Write a restatement that the client can confirm. Tone, length, conditional wording for assumptions, clarification questions.

  4. Checking and preparing the next steps

Objective: Ensure a sound basis for the next stage of the discussion. Accuracy check, open questions, proposed next step.

What you take away

  • Structured summary of needs
  • Email to the client restating their needs
  • List of open questions
  • List of restatement errors to avoid

Method and assessment

  • Short explanations followed by immediate practice on the running case study.
  • Individual work followed by work in pairs, with peer review of the outputs.
  • Guided group discussion: what works, what needs correcting and what remains a human decision.
  • Preparation: If possible, bring an example of a meeting report (anonymised).

Observable criteria: Each restated need can be traced back to the original notes; Assumptions are clearly presented as such; The email is short and ends with a request for confirmation; At least two relevant open questions are identified.

Frequently asked questions

Can notes be dictated to the AI?

The session uses written notes. The use of transcription depends on the tools authorised and the consent of the people being recorded.

Why have the client confirm the restatement?

To avoid building a proposal on a misunderstanding; it is the client who confirms their need.

Is the client’s data protected?

The exercises are fictitious. In a real situation, only information permitted by your internal rules may be entered into the tool.

What comes after this training?

The sales proposal training enables you to turn this restatement into a structured offer.
