From script to filming

How do you turn a business procedure into a verified, usable educational video production dossier that is ready for production?

In short

This 7-hour day, excluding breaks, enables you to prepare a short educational video, from the learning need to the production dossier. Generative AI supports scripting, shot breakdown and review. You check the content, organise the assets and test understanding before starting filming or generation.

Why this training?

A video can be enjoyable to watch without enabling someone to perform a task correctly. Defining the expected behaviour, choosing demonstrations and removing secondary details prevents you from filming a procedure that is simply read aloud. AI speeds up script variations and shot proposals, but may invent a step or suggest a misleading representation. The work retains human validation of the content, rights and consistency between narration and images. Running case study: The fictitious organisation Avelune Médiathèques wants a four-minute video to teach new staff how to record the return of a damaged document. A fictitious procedure provides the steps, exceptions and messages to convey; no real user data is used. Transfer to the workplace: For a forthcoming job-specific video, reuse the template dossier, have the script approved by the person responsible for the procedure and test the storyboard with a future learner before production.

Objectives of this training

  • Formulate an observable learning objective for a short video
  • Structure a script that faithfully follows a reference procedure
  • Build a storyboard combining narration, shots and on-screen information
  • Document the rights, consents and notices for the proposed assets
  • Assess understanding and correct the dossier before production

Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?

Roles and tasks concerned

  • Instructional designers and training managers preparing short job-specific videos
  • Subject-matter experts and internal communications officers contributing to scripts and filming

Prior skills

  • Know how to request and then revise a text using a generative AI assistant.
  • Be familiar with a work procedure and the difficulties its learners encounter.

What you will work on

  1. Define the learning scope

Objective: Define what the staff member must be able to do after watching. Audience, context of use, observable objective, common errors and scope of a short video.

  2. Organise the progression

Objective: Build an understandable demonstration without overload. A relevant opening hook, steps, example, exception and final recap; separation of facts and suggestions.

  3. Write and time

Objective: Write precise and natural narration. Writing for speech, practical instructions, synchronising actions, timed reading and subject-matter review.

  4. Break down the shots

Objective: Translate the script into achievable visual directions. Framing, fictitious screenshots, continuity, legibility, subtitling and description of essential visual information.

  5. Safeguard production

Objective: Anticipate permissions and production constraints. Copyright, licences, image and voice consent, applicable notices for synthetic content; risks of deepfakes and impersonation.

  6. Test before production

Objective: Measure the educational clarity of the dossier. Simulated storyboard read-through, comprehension questions, quality checklist and prioritisation of corrections.

What you take away

  • Educational brief and source traceability table
  • Timed script with narration and on-screen text
  • Annotated storyboard and list of assets to produce
  • Production dossier including rights, approvals and a test checklist

Method and assessment

  • Short inputs followed by immediate practice on the running case study.
  • Individual work followed by work in pairs, with peer review of the outputs.
  • Guided group discussion: what works, what needs correcting and what remains a human decision.
  • Preparation: Arrange access to a tool authorised by your organisation; work exclusively with fictitious or anonymised cases. Choose a short anonymised procedure and identify its audience; the running case study remains available.

Observable criteria: Every work-related step in the script refers back to the supplied procedure, with no unapproved additions. ; The timed reading meets the target duration of four minutes, within thirty seconds. ; Each shot specifies the image, narration, on-screen text and its duration. ; Each asset has a rights status and the necessary consents are identified. ; The test includes three questions linked to the objective, and misunderstandings lead to documented corrections..

Frequently asked questions

Do we produce a finished video?

No. The day results in the complete dossier to prepare for production, including a storyboard-based test.

Do you need to know how to edit a video?

No. The exercises focus on educational choices and the directions needed for production.

Can you plan to use a synthetic voice?

Yes, subject to rights, consents and internal rules; no imitation of a person without permission.

How do you check AI suggestions?

Compare each instruction with the source procedure and refer ambiguities to the subject-matter lead before filming.
