Contextualise without misrepresenting
How can you create attractive settings while maintaining an accurate representation of the product being sold?

In short
“Create product images in context” is a private in-person session of a full day for e-commerce teams and catalogue content managers or graphic designers and communications officers producing product visuals. It helps you formalise a visual brief with unchangeable product characteristics and publication constraints. Groups of up to 12 participants, in French, with exercises on your own work cases.
Why this training?
An attractive image may feature an invented cap, a misleading material appearance or an inconsistent scale. These discrepancies make the visual unsuitable for a commercial product page, even when the setting looks credible. The method separates the product’s unchangeable characteristics from staging choices. It organises iterations and checks to reduce rework and distinguish publishable images from those requiring retouching or a new photograph. Running case study: The fictitious company « Avelune Objets » is preparing the commercial product page for a 750 ml insulated water bottle. Using fictitious reference photographs, produce three staged settings: office, hiking and kitchen, without changing the cap, proportions, colour or markings. Transfer to the workplace: Apply the process to an authorised catalogue item: have the product manager validate the unchangeable characteristics, produce a pilot set and record the reasons for rejection before expanding production.
Objectives of this training
- Formalise a visual brief with unchangeable product characteristics and publication constraints
- Prepare usable references and verify the associated rights
- Write reproducible contextualisation instructions
- Compare variants using a fidelity and consistency assessment grid
- Deliver exports accompanied by validation decisions
Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?
Roles and tasks concerned
- E-commerce teams and catalogue content managers
- Graphic designers and communications officers producing product visuals
Prior skills
- Be able to formulate and adjust a request in a generative AI tool.
- Understand the constraints of a product page and be proficient in cropping, resolution and image formats.
What you will work on
Define the visual promise
Objective: Define what the image can show without misleading. Commercial use, target audience, context, angle, scale and unchangeable characteristics.
Secure the references
Objective: Compile a usable source folder. Useful views, background removal, copyright, trademarks, individuals’ consent and confidentiality.
Build the instructions
Objective: Describe the setting and product constraints precisely. Composition, lighting, perspective, props and exclusions; limitations of text-based requests.
Develop the staged settings
Objective: Maintain consistency across three contexts. Colour continuity, commercial framing and changing one variable per iteration.
Measure discrepancies
Objective: Decide which images to keep or rework. Side-by-side checking, critical defects and scoring for fidelity, plausibility and legibility.
Prepare for publication
Objective: Assemble a traceable set for validation. Dimensions, compression, naming, applicable disclosures, deepfakes and human validation.
What you take away
- Contextualisation brief and reference inventory
- Library of version-controlled instructions
- Set of three candidate staged settings and selected exports
- Completed checking grid and rights register
Method and assessment
- Short instructional inputs followed by immediate practice on the running case study.
- Individual work followed by work in pairs, with peer review of the outputs.
- Guided group review: what works, what needs correcting and what remains a human decision.
- Preparation: Arrange access to a tool authorised by your organisation; check the available features before the session. Prepare fictitious or anonymised references, a technical data sheet and publication specifications without confidential data.
Observable criteria: Each variant is compared against the references for shape, proportions, colour, material and markings. ; The three contexts reflect actual use and do not suggest any unsubstantiated properties. ; Defects in perspective, shadows and contact are identified and characterised. ; Each export meets the requested dimensions and has an explicit validation status. ; Rights, any necessary consents and applicable disclosures are documented before publication..
Frequently asked questions
Is one photograph enough?
It may suffice for one angle; multiple views make it easier to check details and proportions.
How should a distorted logo be handled?
Reject the variant or reintegrate the original product using an authorised method; do not publish the invented marking.
Can a well-known person be added?
Not without appropriate permissions. Misleading deepfakes and fake testimonials are excluded from the exercises.
Must the use of AI be disclosed?
Check legal obligations, channel rules and the organisation’s rules; record the applicable disclosure.
