Clear and convincing slides

How can you turn scattered information into a readable slide presentation that facilitates a decision?

In short

In a half-day session of 3 hours you use generative AI to define a message, structure a narrative and draft slides. You assemble a six-slide presentation in your usual software, then check its readability, fidelity to the sources and the clarity of the decision sought.

Why this training?

A slide presentation can contain all the useful information without enabling the audience to understand what they should take away. Defining the decision and prioritising the arguments avoids an accumulation of text and implicit conclusions. AI helps suggest outlines, shorten wording and clarify transitions. Its suggestions must nevertheless be checked against the sources: convincing wording is neither evidence nor validation of the facts. Running case study: The fictitious organisation « Ormevia Services » wants to replace internal requests received by email with a shared form. Using a fictitious briefing note describing the difficulties, two options and their constraints, participants prepare six slides to secure a committee’s approval for a limited trial. Transfer to the workplace: For your next presentation, reuse the brief and checklist with anonymised content. Ask a colleague to restate the central message and the decision sought, then revise any slides that prompt a different interpretation.

Objectives of this training

  • Formulate the central message and the decision sought to suit the audience
  • Organise six slides in a logical progression of arguments
  • Use AI to write explicit titles and concise content
  • Assemble a slide presentation that distinguishes between messages, evidence and speaker notes
  • Evaluate the presentation using a checklist and correct shortcomings

Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?

Roles and tasks concerned

  • Staff presenting proposals or progress updates at meetings
  • Managers and coordinators preparing presentation materials for an internal committee

Prior skills

  • Have previous experience of formulating and refining a simple request to generative AI
  • Be able to create, edit and save slides in your usual software

What you will work on

  1. Define the scope before generating

Objective: Define what the committee needs to understand and decide. Audience, context, central message, time constraints and separation of facts from assumptions.

  2. Map out the progression

Objective: Assign a specific role to each slide. Sequence of situation, problem, options, recommendation, trial and decision; titles phrased as messages.

  3. Move from outline to presentation

Objective: Produce readable slides without reproducing the spoken commentary. Concise writing, visual hierarchy, contrast, available space; choosing between text, a comparison table and a diagram.

  4. Test and correct

Objective: Measure the quality of the presentation before distribution. Source checks, consistency of titles, readability when projected and understanding of the conclusion.

What you take away

  • Presentation brief specifying the audience, message and decision
  • Six-slide storyboard with source references
  • Editable slide presentation with speaker notes
  • Completed checklist and priority corrections

Method and assessment

  • Short instructional inputs followed by immediate practice using the running case study.
  • Individual work followed by work in pairs, with peer review of the outputs.
  • Guided group discussion: what works, what needs correcting and what remains a human decision.
  • Preparation: Have access to generative AI and presentation software authorised by the organisation Prepare a blank slide template and, optionally, a fully anonymised example; the fictitious dossier remains available

Observable criteria: The brief explicitly identifies an audience, a central message and a decision sought; Each slide conveys one main idea identifiable in its title; Factual claims are linked to the dossier; assumptions are flagged; The six slides remain readable when projected, with no overflow or insufficient contrast; A peer correctly restates the recommendation and the action requested.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI automatically produce the final file?

This is not necessary: the text and storyboard are transferred to the usual software and then formatted.

Can you work with an internal dossier?

Only after anonymisation and in accordance with the organisation’s rules, using authorised tools; otherwise, use the fictitious case study.

Do you need to know how to draw?

No. The exercises use a simple hierarchy, a table and basic diagrams.

Will you practise public speaking?

A short presentation tests understanding of the slides; it does not replace training in oral presentation skills.
