A slide deck for learning

How can you turn expert content into slides that genuinely support learning?

In short

In a half-day session lasting 3 hours participants use generative AI to structure an educational slide deck, write accessible messages and incorporate an application activity. They produce a short presentation with facilitator notes, then assess its coherence, readability and alignment between objectives, content and checks on learning.

Why this training?

Educational materials should not copy a reference document. Excessive text obscures important decisions and leaves little room for practice. Distinguishing between what is projected, what is explained verbally and what is practised helps support learning. AI can propose a sequence, simplify wording and suggest questions. However, its proposals must be checked against the source: a fluent explanation may introduce a non-existent rule, omit an exception or require learners to use a skill they have not been taught. Running case study: The fictitious organisation « Lunérys Réparation » welcomes staff responsible for receiving faulty appliances. Using a fictitious one-page procedure, participants prepare a fifteen-minute session to teach staff how to classify a request and pass a complete case file to the technician. Transfer to the workplace: Over the following two weeks, revisit an anonymised professional presentation, revise five slides using the assessment grid produced and test an application question with a colleague. Compare the expected and actual answers to identify explanations that need strengthening.

Objectives of this training

  • Formulate two observable learning objectives suited to the audience
  • Organise a sequence linking explanation, example and application
  • Use AI to write eight slides and their facilitator notes
  • Design an activity and three questions to check learning
  • Evaluate the materials using a grid and correct the shortcomings identified

Who is it for and what are the prerequisites?

Roles and tasks concerned

  • Internal trainers and occasional facilitators of short sessions
  • Subject matter experts and team leaders teaching a procedure to beginners

Prior skills

  • Have already used a generative AI assistant to write or rephrase a text
  • Be able to create and edit slides in presentation software

What you will work on

  1. Define what beginners need to be able to do

Objective: Define what can realistically be learnt in fifteen minutes. Audience, prior knowledge, verbs describing observable actions and selection of essential information.

  2. Design a learning sequence

Objective: Move from the source document to a learning scenario. Opening hook, demonstration, annotated example, application and recap; time allocation.

  3. Write and format the slides

Objective: Produce readable materials without losing professional accuracy. Clear titles, visual hierarchy, contrast, simple diagrams and facilitator notes; checking rephrased content.

  4. Test understanding and revise

Objective: Measure educational quality rather than appearance alone. Questions aligned with the objectives, observation of hesitations and a checking grid.

What you take away

  • Scoping sheet: audience, objectives and session duration
  • Storyboard for eight slides with time allocation
  • Revised slide deck with notes, activity and model answer
  • Completed quality assessment grid and list of corrections made

Method and assessment

  • Short inputs followed by immediate practice using the running case study.
  • Individual work followed by work in pairs, with peer review of the outputs.
  • Guided group discussion: what works, what needs correcting and what remains a human decision.
  • Preparation: Have access to an AI assistant and presentation software authorised by the organisation Prepare a short piece of anonymised content to explain; the fictitious case file provided remains available for all exercises

Observable criteria: The two objectives describe actions that can be checked during the session; Each slide conveys one main message and distinguishes between projected text and notes; The rules presented can be traced to the procedure provided, with no unvalidated additions; The activity and the three questions assess only the stated objectives; The timed test leads to a documented correction of the materials.

Frequently asked questions

Does AI automatically create the final file?

This is not necessary: the texts and storyboard are assembled in the available presentation software.

Can you use a confidential procedure?

The exercises use only fictitious or anonymised content, in tools authorised by the organisation.

Will we work on public speaking?

The test focuses on a short section and the facilitator notes, not on a full oral presentation rehearsal.

How can you check AI’s proposals?

Compare every rule and example with the source procedure; remove any additions or have them validated before use.
